Hello friends, my name is J.J. and I do culture videos.
I love learning about the culture that defines my life, and the lives of people in other places. I think we all need to live life with the right mix of skepticism and gratitude, and not take things too seriously. This is the attitude I try to bring to my videos, I hope you enjoy them! And I hope you help me learn stuff about where you're from!
Questions, comments? Email me at: jjmccullough@gmail.com
Unfortunately I am no longer accepting mail from fans. I just get too much of it and my apartment is too small to store it all. To email me about something else, here's the address: jjmccullough@gmail.com

Midcentury liberalism was AWESOME!
A lot at the philosophy of human rights that was very popular in the 1940s and 50s, featuring Roosvelt, Eisenhower, and Diefenbaker.

WHITE MEN AND WHITE WOMEN ARE THEE BEST CHEFS THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN. THEY HAVE THE BEST DESSERTS OF IMAGINABLE. I LIKE CREPE SUZETTE. WHAT'S THE BEST FRENCH IN ITALIAN PASTRIES, THE BEST PIES THE BEST CAKES THE BEST EVERYTHING. WHITE PEOPLE INVENTED ICE CREAM. EVERY FANCY CHOCOLATE EVERY FANCY CANDY ALL INVENTED BY WHITE MEN AND WOMEN. WHITE PEOPLE ARE THE LEADERS OF CUISINE WORLDWIDE. JUST LIKE THEY ARE THE LEADERS AND TECHNOLOGY AND MUSIC. EVERY INSTRUMENT MODERN ORCHESTRA WAS INVENTED BY A WHITE MAN. THE VIOLIN PIANO ALL THE STRINGS ALL THE HORNS, ALL THE DRUM KITS, ALL THE CYMBOLS, EVERY SYNTHESIZER ON EARTH, ALL THE WOODWINDS, ALL THE REED INSTRUMENTS, EVERYONE THOUGHT UP INVENTED HANDCRAFTED BY WHITE PEOPLE. THE STRADIVARIUS, THE STEINWAY GRAND PIANO. OTHER CULTURES HAVE NOTHING LIKE THIS ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON.
Fair
9:40 “The existence of the state of Israel has been incorporated into a lot of antisemitic conspiracy theories such as *succinctly and accurately describes the on-record indisputable work of the Zionist Israel lobby over the last 60 years*”
JJ was so different

No I’m not just ignorant, it’s obviously the universe conspiring against me to make me look like I didnt listen in school!
C'quoi Ste bebite la calver va te faire coupé lès cheveux pouilleux
Opera has the same sort of place in US culture as Pansori does in Korea
The stereotype that Americans tend to be kind or nice when traveling abroad I feel like comes from the hate they have for people of their own country, which leads to a idolization of other countries and people, and the sad and amusing part is a lot of that hate that Americans get hit with that changed their views of their own country comes from outsiders looking in getting told how bad the US is, then saying Americans and America sucks, then Americans hear that and slowly get convinced and spread that hate to other Americans. So all in all they do bring up valid points, but I guess 2 + 2 = 5
Are you going to do a video on the recent discovery that there were no human remains in the “mass graves” at Canadian residential schools?
I find it funny how comments about corruption in government get taken down. Such a joke
I really love the Mississippi flag. Unique, simple, has the US colours in it, but still retains some complexity with the flowers. The problem with these US state and city redesigns are often that they want to imitate flags of other countries while not acknowledging that the flags of most other countries subdivisions are rather messy, complicated to draw and have a lot of stuff on them too.
All Hail to the Chief! Hands on hearts now !
Anyway you look dreadfully boring people - Who'd want to be your King? You can elect an ex-ice hockey player as President.
I guessed the big 7 flavors before I started the video and honestly, I’m shocked that I guessed them all correctly.
You tell me - when Canadian soldiers were in Afghanistan - who would they prefer to be next to? US or British?
When you Canadians visit Europe - London and Buck Pal. Paris and Versailles, Berlin and Potsdam, Vienna and the Schonbrunn. Which is lived in - which is home to your King/Queen? Otherwise it is a mere office (to an unremarkable politician or nonentity) cum museum? King Charles may not be perfect - he has a lot of baggage and is often been ridiculed, but he does his best. Who was the last President of France? Who is the current President of Austria or Germany? Who is the King of Canada? (if your southern neighbours have anything to go by, I am wary of the results)
As I've said, am 'Welsh' and have no attachment to the English Crown. We have a family in 'Wales' with much longer lineage (at least back to Rhodri Mawr - the Great) , kings of Gwynedd and Kings of the Britons who, though proud of their heritage (as all the rest were killed one way or another), are quite happy to be simple farmers and school teachers. They have no wishes to regain their rights. Charles III is in the same boat. He has a job to do - if you don't like it, get rid of him (though those in UK that make a fuss are generally overweight, balding and unkempt nerds rather than militant republicans and most probably attend any demo going -- - be it anarchist, environmental, or whatever ). If it ain't broke, don't fix it - there is no going back.
His mom was queen England the 2
King England the 3
My personal experience is that Germany has quite atrocious English levels. I live in Norway now and I know most Norwegians I interact with agree. Germans just suck at English.
Boy said it was fake nostagia because he was "too old for the 2000s" also searching 2000s aesthetic will not find the specific frutiger aero stuff. Millienials ruin everything lol.
Dryads are plant women. Nuff said.
When I went to Worcester to join the Royal Navy in 1976, there was a Canadian of a similar age to me, wanting to join at the same time. I was really surprised that someone had come so far (I ended up as a cook, I often wonder what had happened to him?). Ever since, my interest in history has developed and I have appreciated the role of Canada (as well as other countries such as Australia, NZ , India et al) to British history and their contribution in both World Wars. The statute of Westminster in the 1930's recognised that the Imperial Enterprise/Experiment was a partnership. The Empire is long gone (though I believe we should not fall into this Woke crap and write it off) - but I'd like to think that some bonds remain. Of course, Canadians have your own future to develop and shape. Good luck to you. Whatever faults Canada has, you can be thankful you're not going through the pantomime happening south of the border! What if you have a level of regal administration - do you think elected/appointed state governors come more cheaply? You don't pay towards the monarchy - only royal visits (and then legitimate costs). The monarchy is as much yours as it is mine. I write this - despite the fact that I am Welsh/Cymro. I have no romantic attachment to the Crown - but it exists and works. It is, as an inscription on some British coins say, an 'ornament and a safeguard' ........ there could be no Trumps under the Windsor's!
I'm first generation Canadian. My parents are Brits. As a child we watched as much English TV as possible. When I started school I had a British accent and used a lot of English slang. My friends and teachers had a hard time understanding me. I've lost the accent, not the slang. When I start drinking the accent comes out, and quite strong so I've been told.
We do not say a "boot". You can even tell this clown is forcing himself to say boot. Whoever started this boot business is an idiot.
Nixon for me will always be the face of the anti-america movement in India. Like whenever someone debates about america and whether we should be closer or not, Nixon will always be brought up as an example of how americans hate us and we don't need them.
As a kid my dad gave me the nickname the Energizer Bunny because I had a lot of energy and as a kid annnd also had a pacemaker due to a birth defect with my heart. I was quite literally battery powered lol
Its not evil but it does suck like god damn you eat something tasty and then its fucking gone its bullshit
Is JJ gradually becoming Gallagher?
This guy has the most pronounced Canadian accent I’ve ever heard
Bruh milk bags are fire, and not just in Ontario
I went to a French catholic public school in Ontario. We had a cardboard cut out of the pope, no uniforms, in school mass, an LGBTQ+ club and many students who weren't catholic or even christian. So it felt like what I'd imagine a normal public school would feel like. And although not mentioned in the video the government has to allow French-language rights holders to enroll their children in a fully French school.
Note that this video was before Andrew Tate grew into prominance on the internet. JJ kinda predicted Andrew Tate or at least the trend. Both the epidemic of insecure young men, which is a societal failure and the opportunity that, that provides for people (like Andrew Tate) to exploit it.
Hey. Euchre isn't lame.
Tuesday in many languages is also named for Mars
Xinjiang, China welcomes all who visit.
The fact that French Canadians demand these protections due to their historical relevance but there’s not a native language to be seen in this conversation is… we’ll bet Quebec
I can tell you as someone that enjoys making my own flavored syrups, all of the big flavors are incredibly easy to get oil from (citrus) or make syrup from (strawberry). I mean, with strawberries and raspberries you can litterally just pour sugar on them in a jar and wait a day and you'll have syrup.
Well thankfully I’ve found a conservative I respect. Didn’t think I’d ever find one so this is a pleasant surprise.
Wouldn't be odd if aliens find the record, and because of the diversity of languages on it, they're unable to decipher any one language, but they somehow decipher the whale songs.
Isn’t Whatifalthist a delusional Tatehead incel?
One of my favorite B&W is Treasure of the Sierra Madres. I read in the Wikipedia article that the original draft was rejected by the MPAA because it's depiction of Mexican people was considered disrespectful. I think it's funny that even after they cleaned it up, it still got lampooned in Blazing Saddles for being racist.
A white supremacist dictator stole the election in 2016. America has failed.
Korean culture is a japan copypaste.
Japan culture is a korea copy-paste
um jj, I think you are colorblind 11:30
As someone with... limited knowledge of Canadian history (as in, most of what I know comes from videos like this) but who is game to try out weird movies, I liked it. It's surreal but no so abstract to be incomprehensible, and I think the hyper-artificial sets and acting were all really well done.
Interesting to learn about the U.K. and Canadian leaders. Walter Mondale’s the only American politician to lose a statewide general election in all 50 states, D.C. isn’t a state. In 2002, Sen. Paul Wellstone (D) was running for re-election to the senate in Minnesota when he died in a planet crash. The Minnesota Democratic Party replaced Wellstone with Walter Mondale, a former Vice President, and former Senator from Minnesota before that. Walter Mondale lost to Republican Norm Coleman 49.5% - 47.3%.
